ROH 13th Anniversary Results

Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Weekly live coverage from Las Vegas

Phil Baroni is in the front row.  Jessamyn Duke is also at ringside.

CEDRIC ALEXANDER VS. MATT SYDAL
Sydal won with the shooting star press after Alexander missed a dropkick.  Good opener.  A lot of creativity, good crowd reactions and a lot of near falls back-and-forth  Sydal kicked out of Alexander's lumberjack.  The two shook hands when it was over.  Alexander wasn't happy about shaking hands.

They are doing a video feature on Moose.

MARK BRISCOE VS. MOOSE

Moose won with the spear. Moose is doing an unbeaten gimmick.  Moose is real green but he's a different level of athlete.  He did an Okada style dropkick when Briscoe was sitting on the top rope and got higher than Okada.  Some good stuff by both guys but Moose loses the intensity in spots. Veda Scott refused to let Moose shake hands.

KARL ANDERSON VS. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & FRANKIE KAZARIAN VS. MATT TAVEN & MICHAEL BENNETT

Maria isn't there because she's preparing for ODB.  Taven & Bennett won with a spike piledriver when Taven spiked Anderson and then pinned him.  They told the truth regarding travel problems for Doc Gallows not being there.  Good match, crowd was chanting this is awesome.  A lot of moves for the most part well timed.  The crowd didn't have an emotional reaction to this  I think this pin was for New Japan to establish Taven & Bennett as potential tag title challengers with the clean pin on Anderson.

BJ WHITMER VS. RODERICK STRONG

Solid match.  Whitmer kissed Strong, the kiss of death, but Strong then came back with elbows and knees and then a suplex into a backbreaker for the pin.  Jimmy Jacobs interfered a few times but mostly did commentary.

ODB VS. MARIA KANELLIS

This was a smoke and mirrors match with Mark Briscoe and Michael Bennett both interfering.  It was definitely entertaining for what it should be.  There were some crazy spots led by ODB doing the doomsday device off the apron and Bennett took a flip bump onto the floor.  Bennett had speared Maria when ODB moved and then in the ring, ODB used the bam, which is the TKO, for the pin.  ODB pressed Maria onto Bennett on the floor and then she did a plancha on Briscoe, Bennett and Maria.

A.J. STYLES VS. ACH IN A NON-TITLE MATCH

Good match, not off he charts or anything but a lot of good wrestling.  Styles won a Japanese style match with a Bloody Sunday DDT and Styles clash.  ACH did a Fosbury flop dove as the spectacular move.  There was something slightly missing out of this, maybe from the crowd.  Styles got a near submission with the Calf killer.  ACH missed a 450 near the finish

KYLE O'REILLY & BOBBY FISH VS. YOUNG BUCKS FOR ROH TAG TITLES

Shayna Baszler brought out the belts.  Rocky Romero is there doing commentary.

Super match ending with Chasing the Dragon on Nick for the pin.  Romero said he and Trent Baretta's new name is Roppongi Vice (Roppongi is the party section of Tokyo) and they'll be challenge Fish & O'Reilly for the belts.  The first time they did Chasing the Dragon, Matt pulled ref Todd Sinclair out of the ring.  Earlier when the Bucks did More Bang For Your Buck, Baszler pulled Sinclair out of the ring.  They teased going after Baszler but O'Reilly jumped off the apron.  The Bucks did the Indy-taker spike tombstone on O'Reilly on the floor and that left Fish alone.  Lots of dives.  Crowd loved this, it feels like the crowd isn't mic'd well but they were so loud at the end here that they overcame it.

Jay Lethal said I will not take hand me downs from Danielson and Samoa Joe or C.M. Punk, but said Punk will take his hand me downs.

JAY LETHAL VS. ALBERTO EL PATRON FOR ROH TV TITLE

Good match.  The finish saw Alberto use an O'Connor roll, but Lethal kicked out and as he came to the ropes, Truth Martini hit him in the head with the Book of Truth and Lethal used the Lethal injection for the pin.  Interesting the AAA world champion came here and lost.  Best spot was Martini went to hit him with the book, but Alberto used the armbar.  Lethal came off the top with an elbow but Alberto caught him with the armbar.  Lethal then hit Alberto with the book for a near fall  Alberto used a tope early and Lethal used a three tope sequence.  Crowd felt cold for this match

Samoa Joe out.  Crowd is super into Joe.  Joe said Who said you can't come home.  Joe talked said 13 years ago he was one of the guys who started a movement in Philadelphia to bring true pro wrestling back to true pro wrestling fans  Said the movement has become a revolution.  That was Dusty's 70 stuff.  Joe put over the ROH title was the most coveted title he's ever put around his waist, which comes off like a diss of TNA.  Joe challenged the winner of the four-way.  Said he would be the next ROH world champion.  He said "I am pro wrestling."

JAY BRISCOE VS. HANSON VS. MICHAEL ELGIN VS. TOMMASO CIAMPA FOR THE ROH TITLE

Briscoe retained. The finish was a ton of near falls. Elgin spin kicked Briscoe and in falling, Briscoe landed on top of Ciampa for the pin.  It was positioned as if it was a total fluke win. Tons of near falls.  They had a spot where Hanson used a Rikishi driver on Jay but this was after ref Todd Sinclair was knocked out of the match.  The three masked guys laid out Briscoe and Hanson.  Raymond Rowe returned to save Hanson and chased the masked guys away.  They teased the masked guys were The Kingdom.  Elgin did a double arm Jay driller off the apron through a table onto Briscoe.  He went to destroy Briscoe with the concerto when Nigel McGuinness jumped in to protect Briscoe from the chair to the head.  Then Elgin went after McGuinness but Ciampa pulled McGuinness to safety  Ciampa hit Elgin with a chair but again no ref. Paul Turner came out to ref the rest and they went to the finish shortly after.  A ton of stuff in this match.  The crowd didn't come across that live on TV.  Really after the Bucks and Joe interview, it felt they never got back up except for spots.

Samoa Joe came out and bumped into Elgin after the match.  Joe grabbed the belt.  Show ended with Joe and Briscoe face-to-face.

Next PPV is Best in the World PPV June 19 from New York
