Many things have happened in the life of Austin Idol this past week and quite frankly it was my intention to write a totally different column. What changed my mind were some comments that were made by Sal “Rough Cuts” LaSardo Jr. As I was reading his article on this website, he spoke rather in depth about my infamous match with Jerry “The King” Lawler. Quite frankly, I couldn’t let this one fade into the abyss! Sal wrote about how great this match was and why every Pro Wrestling fan should watch it on YouTube. He also mentioned that I should call WWE’S Big Kahuna Vince McMahon and suggest he book a re-match between me and Lawler. At the outset, thnx for the props Sal about the match that went down in the annals of Pro Wrestling!
As for all the avid and rabid wrestling fans who haven’t seen this “Insane” spectacle where I barely escaped with my life from a sold out “Riotous” crowd in Memphis, Tn, I suggest you take a hard look at what wrestling used to be! I have been approached before about a re-match with the “King” but, the venues and the deal didn’t do it justice. A match of this historic magnitude would “Have” to be on a “Huge” platform much like the WWE. Even if Vince were interested in booking this Major Grudge match, the logistics would have to right. Let’s face it, if promoted properly, this event could post some pretty strong ppv numbers! Henceforth, some lofty guaranteed $$$ would have to be put in place! Would Vincent pop for something like this?
Who knows but, I’m not the one to be making the call to find out. Look, I worked for Vince McMahon Sr. who was as fine a man as you could ever meet back in 1973 when I was a young punk kid wrestling as “Iron Mike” McCord. Vince gave me that name and also hooked me up with one of wrestling’s greatest managers and personalities of all time! Yes people, The “Guiding Light” and “The Captain” Louis Vincent Albano was my manager in what was then known as the WWWF. Young Vince Jr. conducted all the interviews and TV commentary and did a masterful job while I was there cutting my teeth in Pro Wrestling. I say all this just to make everyone aware that there is a history with myself and Vince, who controls the world of wrestling.
Yes Sal, Austin Idol is still in good shape and I assume Lawler is as well but, this one is all up to Vince and his check book. We can make this real simple: “Grudge Match Of The Century”! The “Universal Hearthrob” Austin Idol vs Jerry “The King” Lawler in a Steel Cage “Hair vs Hair” Match! Special “Knock Out Proof” referee “Rowdy” Roddy Piper!! Must be a winner! So there you go sports fans and you too Vince! Give me a shout Vinny but, have your check book out with pen in hand! “YNOT” PONY UP VINCE!
