Valets From The Insider

This column will be about Valets and their place in the wrestling business.
One of the very first wrestler to have a valet was Gorgeous George. His first valet was a male man servant. He walked George to the ring and held the silver serving tray while George removed bobbie pins and put them on the tray. Then after the man servant was gone George used his wife for the same purpose.
These were people that were a prop for the wrestler. They never spoke on the microphone and they never got involved in the matches.
Then you had Rick Rude use his sister as his valet in Memphis and Texas. Again never got on the microphone. Jerry Lawler included her in matches but she was never used as a wrestler. Miss Elizabeth was a valet to Randy Savage and she never did get in the ring to wrestle. That wasn't her job. Vince wanted her to speak because he thought she made for good tv. I have always thought that was a big mistake because she again was a prop to get Savage over as abusive heel.
That is what valets are......They are to be seen and not heard. They are a prop. They aren't wrestlers and never should be used as such. If a valet wants to be a wrestler then they need to be trained as such. Otherwise valets should stay in the corner and be the props that they are. They should never talk on the microphone, the heel should be able to get his own heat with promos. The valet should never be the center of attention because those aren't the people selling tickets. Or shouldn't be. The people should come to see the wrestlers. Not the prop in the corner. If your valet is getting more heat than you you should look for a new profession.
Also the valet should never get touched. Once they are touched they are of no value to anyone in the business.Once a wholesome baby face touches a valet, most times a woman, they lose their creditability as a wholesome guy. They should never get involved in the match again they are a prop.
I don't care how many of these valets swear up and down they were trained to wrestle and they know how. They are a PROP. Nothing more nothing less.
If you want your girlfriend or wife to walk out there with you that is fine. Make sure they know their place before you get out there.
