Kevin Nash Backstage at Wrestlemania

Kevin Nash was backstage at WrestleMania XXIV. To put an end to speculation, Nash was not there looking for any type of WWE deal but was there to visit with Triple H and wanted to be there for Ric Flair's match against Shawn Michaels. Nash left WWE on very good terms and was even offered a management position in the company that he declined. He remains good friends with Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

Rock Getting Heat for HOF Speech?!

A number of people in WWE weren't pleased with how Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson came off this past Saturday night. He did not leave a positive impression on a number of wrestlers at the Hall of Fame banquet.
.
A number of sources report that Johnson did not hang out with old friends before and after his speech at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He showed up for the speech, delivered one that offended many in WWE and was believed to be too long, and then left.
.
Some of his former colleagues are saying that Johnson came across as "aloof" and "totally Hollywood," as if he were "above WWE now," not to mention everyone in WWE as well. One of those people include one-time friend Steve Austin, who was openly displeased and taken aback by Johnson's demeanor.

Shawn Michaels Comments Before Wrestlemania Match with Flair

"For me to be handpicked by the man who I was inspired by, the man who I consider to be a wonderful friend, is beyond what words can describe. For him to say, "I want you, I don't think anybody else can do the job better for me than you in my last one," it's amazing. I am so extremely touched, and I'm brought to tears every time I think about it. I've never in all my years in wrestling felt so much pressure to want to do the best I can. I've never gone into a Wrestlemania feeling insecure. I've never gone into a wrestling match insecure or not confident, or just not in my mind believing I can get this done. But I have with this one. I wonder if I can do justice and do it for the guy who deserves it."

WWE Puts the Squeeze on Man Nipples

Nipplegate 2008 has broken out in Florida! Wrestlers John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton and Big Show are all proudly baring their nipple-free chests on a huge banner in downtown Orlando. Wait, what?

City officials met with some WWE suits to figure out how to keep the wrestling poster from looking "too provocative." The outcome - the WWE slammed, er, airbrushed the nipples into oblivion. Billboard malfunction!

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Mayor Buddy Dyer liked the nipple-free poster and added that there was some sort of city ordinance that banned public display of male nipples. For the love of Janet Jackson! But according to the city's press secretary no such ordinance exists.

Only one banner was targeted for nipple eradication. However, buses all over town are still cruising the streets baring the original posters of the wrestlers --male nipples and all. Flaunt 'em if you got 'em!

TNA Fans Become Angry Last Night

A few WWE wrestlers were backstage at last nights live TNA iMPACT! show in Orlando. Among those backstage were ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero and SmackDown star Shannon Moore. Guerrero's uncle Hector Guerrero is the Spanish announcer for TNA and he was shown on television during the broadcast alongside colleague Willie Urbina (whose name was mistakenly spelled as Willie "Rubina" when his graphic was shown).

TNA wrestlers and management invited approximately 700 "VIPs" and so only 200 fans were let into the venue. Anywhere from 700 to 3,000 fans were turned away at the show -- which is free by the way. A number of fans had waited 4 to 6 hours for the event. Outside, there was a rather hostile scene as a loud "F--- TNA" chant broke out.

TNA President Dixie Carter spent time greeting fans at tonight's live Impact taping. She also spoke to fans who had been turned away from the event.

'SmackDown vs. RAW 2009' - Full Details On WWE's New Videogame

THQ, the creator of WWE's beloved videogame franchise "SmackDown vs. RAW" has revealed the first details for the 2009 edition. Here is what's new for this year's SmackDown vs. RAW game:

-- The game will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, PlayStation 2 and mobile devices

-- The biggest change in the action will come with a strong focus on tag teams. Tag teams -- both in and out of Road to WrestleMania -- will utilize the same momentum meter, break opponents with double team finishers and make "hot tags" for the win. For the first time ever, players will be able to team up for co-op storylines in the Road to WrestleMania mode and take advantage of an overhauled tag structure to earn attributes on their way to the top. You can read a 9-page interview with the game developers here where they talk in-depth about the Road to Wrestlemania feature.

-- Also making its debut will be Create-A-Finisher, which allows fans to choose from more than 500 animations in their quest to build the ultimate move.

-- On the 360 and PS3 versions of the game, fans can look for the debut of SVR downloadable content - including downloadable superstars, legends, arenas, outfits, music, movesets and more.

-- On the Nintendo Wii, there will be more match types, more weapons and the debut of online gameplay, which will feature matches and rankings. The Wii version be the only place to find interactive entrances and victory celebrations that range from posing on the ramp to slapping the taste out of a beaten opponent. Get the crowd hyped on your way to the ring for an in-match bonus.

-- On the Nintendo DS version, Gone are the stylus-heavy controls of last year and in their place is a more traditional d-pad/grapple system gamers that have grown up with, although the stylus will still play some part in the action. There will be a season mode with an RPG approach. Players will interact with Superstars, upgrade their abilities and complete missions to become the champion. Create-A-Superstar will make its Nintendo handheld debut, there will be a larger roster of Superstars, and the title will pack a wealth of new match types.

-- So far Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton, Mr. Kennedy, Undertaker and John Cena are confirmed for the game.

Rey Mysterio has completed three surgeries on his torn biceps thus far. He is telling friends that two additional surgeries are required because he got an infection during the first procedure.
Rey is currently in Orlando for WrestleMania 24. It's still unknown at this point whether he will appear on the show. Mysterio is hoping to be back in action by June. This year's One Night Stand PPV in June is being held in his hometown of San Diego, California.

Memphis Wrestling Primetime Results-March 22, 2008

Corey Maclin began the telecast from the studio and told us what's on tap for the night.

The encore presentation began as The Jerry & Jimmy Show returned with "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart introducing the lovely Christina(Christi Ricci) to the show. Jimmy said that Jerry wanted to add a beautiful woman to the show. Jerry "The King" Lawler walked out.

Jerry & Jimmy announced that Koko B. Ware is going to be singing the hit single from his multi-platinum album, The Bird Bird Bird, later on in the show. Jerry also said that Spider-Man is going to be in action and that they would be hearing from "The Boogie Woogie Man" Handsome Jimmy Valiant.

Jerry & Jimmy conducted an interview with "The Birdman" Koko B. Ware. "Superstar" Bill Dundee walked out and said there wasn't going to be any singing. Dundee went after Hart, but Koko attacked "The Superstar" from behind. Koko had Dundee held down, but Jimmy could not lift the ring bell. Jerry helped Jimmy lift the bell, but Kevin White made the save, by hitting Koko with a chair.

Koko B. Ware interfered during the Kevin White/Johnny Dotson match, striking White with a chair. Dundee made the save. During this match, Lawler referred to it as a "Who cares match." Lawler kept saying how boring the match was and even stated how "They could take the tape of this match and show it for yawn research." That was a good one.

The Sexy Assassins(Tim Grind/Flex) walked out. Jerry got Christina to sit on his lap. PIMP! They air a video clip of Brian Christopher's preparation for the stink face match. This video included Brian eating beans and passing gas, throughout it. Funny interview. Following the interview, Grind & Flex said a few words.

Jerry interviews Tim Wright, from Rent World. Jerry asked Tim if he would be interested in hiring "The King" to do their commercials. Tim said they decided to use Corey Maclin for their commercials. Jerry told Tim to take a hike.

They air a video of "The Boogie Woogie Man" Handsome Jimmy Valiant. After the video, Hart asked, "How old is that video because Jimmy has lost about three hundred pounds, since that video had taken place." Jerry added, "If you were to put a nickel on his head, he would look like a nail, wouldn't he? You know what they did? I heard they broke into a pyramid over in Egypt and there was a picture of Jimmy Valiant with King Tut in a headlock!" Jimmy Hart was once again hilarious during this because he was laughing like a little girl.

Telephone interview with "The Boogie Woogie Man" Handsome Jimmy Valiant. Jerry is shown sleeping after the interview. Jimmy Hart had to wake him up.

Spider-Man walks out. Lawler makes fun of him and tells him that he is going to send him packing. So there is a match between Jerry "The King" Lawler & Spider-Man(Wonder if that was Derrick King?) Spider-Man was taking it to "The King" until Lawler attacked the ref, getting himself disqualified. He later gave Referee Rashard Devon a piledriver.

After the match, Jimmy Hart had some words for Corey Maclin. Then, Jerry had something to say to Terry Funk. He said the name of Funk's ranch is Jurassic Park and that his horse was the original horse on Noah's Ark. Lawler also added, "Now, Terry Funk, I had tried to do you a favor. When I took that stick and jammed it in your eye. I was doing you a favor! Because you see, Jimmy, I was trying to stop his suffering. I was trying to take his sight away, so that he wouldn't have to go home everyday and look at that ugly wife of his! Have you ever seen Terry Funk's wife? She would scare the hump off a camel's back! On that ranch of Terry Funk's, he don't have to use a scarecrow. He just makes his wife go out and stand in the fields! That's how ugly she is!" Classic.

Another great Terry Funk interview is shown.

Shock & Koko interview. Koko said, he's not singing and that he's going to destroy Kevin White! Shock said that his good buddy, Brian Christopher, called him and told him to take care of The Sexy Assassins. So Shock called them out. Tim & Flex accepted.

The Sexy Assassins(Grind/Flex) defeated Shock & Koko by disqualification, after Koko brought a shock stick into the ring and attacked both Tim and Flex. Dundee and White made the save. Dundee shocked Koko, before they fled the scene.

Another interview with Corey Maclin and his doctor. Corey tore off his neckbrace and told Jerry to take a look outside at the white Cadillac that he had won from the first Throwback show. Jerry & Jimmy ran outside to check on the car, but Corey almost plowed them down in his GMC Denali. Corey jumped out, swinging two baseball bats. Corey ran into the studio and said, "It's going to be on like a pot of neck bone!"

Corey wrapped up the show.

Jim Ross Talks About Ric Flair & Gordon Solie

Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights.
.

Ross on Ric Flair’s promo: “Was Ric Flair in vintage form Monday night or what? Where has that rendition of ‘the greatest in ring performer ever’ been? Of course, ‘Naitch’ has never left, has always been with us, and I am being a wise ass, but Monday night Flair went "old school" and was able to completely be his unedited, incomparable self. When talents are allowed to be extensions of their natural personalities sometimes one gets great results like we saw Monday night when Ric confronted HBK.”
.
Ross on Flair bringing the original NWA Title belt: “Flair brought the original NWA Title Belt to Raw as many of you saw and that piece of wrestling history is still as awe inspiring as it was the first time I saw it in person in 1974. Several WWE Superstars gathered around to actually get a close up look at history and, like young kids, wanted to touch the championship belt worn by Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes (Ric’s first, in ring role model), Tommy Rich, Kerry Von Erich, and the Giant Baba. I’m probably leaving someone out, but you get the point.”
.
Ross on WWE Hall of Fame inductee Gordon Solie: “Gordon once described his own voice as ‘16 pounds of gravel’ thanks to, I assume, genetics, Benson and Hedges Menthols, and a taste for vodka during an occasional happy hour, for which he was known. I was lucky enough to share some of those belly up to the bar moments with Gordon and I have tried to maintain that particular ‘announcer’s trait’ that he mastered. I hope to be able to tell some great stories of my experiences with ‘The Dean’ on Saturday night, just as he would have wanted.

IWF-TN World Champion Handicapped

Here are some comments made by Trent Van Drisse on the Mid-Southern Wrestling message board about the current IWF-TN World Champion: "Promo and Sabbath talked about this on Jerkin' The Curtain the other night, so I checked it out, and it appears to be true. IWF-TN, an indy based in Cookeville, TN, has put what's billed as their "worlds heavyweight title" on appears to be an obviously handicapped young man, named "King Joseph", with Downs syndrome or something of that sort. Promo said the young man is the child of one of the sponsors of the show, and went on to say it's a slap to the face of everyone who's stepped in a ring, and also criticized them for trying to make money off of it. It's not just a one time "feel good" type thing, since winning the belt, he had at least one "title defense" on March 8th. He "beat" Gravestone, the top heel in that promotion, to win the belt. He apparently "managed" a tag team now, and I'm guessing they did the actual "wrestling," to beat down the previous champion there, and this King Joseph just made the cover or something like that. At least I hope that's how it went down, but it's still terrible. I mean I'm for making a handicapped persons "dream" come true to a point, and everyone knows, or is supposed to know, pro wresting is a work, but this doesn't sit well at all with me. Makes me uncomfortable quite frankly for several reasons, such as safety, exploitation, and just how far can the wrestling business sink. What went into this decision, to make the sponsor happy and spending money? What's next? How do people here feel about it, do you think it's neat or disgusting or somewhere in between? I also think it's stupid for any Indy to be claiming their title is a "worlds heavyweight title." I mean step out of the fantasy enough for it to be believable bullshit. Here's the link to their website...."

Well... does this make anyone "uncomfortable?" Should this be considered a "slap in the face of everyone who has stepped in a ring?" Should we be offended? Should this even be allowed? How do YOU feel? If you have an opinion, leave a comment to this post.
