Ring Of Honor Announces Departure Of Booker, Gabe Sapolsky
SLAM! Wrestling is working on the developing story that Ring of Honor head booker, Gabe Sapolsky, is gone from the company effective immediately. Sapolsky was at last night's show in New Jersey, and no one seemed aware this was coming. It is unknown if Sapolsky knew this before the show or his release came after. ROH stated on their web site, "The company will have no further comments on this issue or a replacement for Mr. Sapolsky. We would like to thank all of the fans and media who have supported us over the years and look forward to bringing you more great wrestling excitement in the future."
Owner Cary Silkin let Gabe Sapolsky know sometime after the ROH show in New Jersey last night. Although crowd size has been slightly down, DVD sales were said to be down a lot, which is the primary source of income for the company. ROH has been built about breaking even at live event gates and profiting on DVDs.
The promotion started PPV over a year back, but have not been able to profit like they hoped from the move.
Rumors of a national television deal had been floating recently, but with Sapolsky gone, this was most likely rumors or dead. Some are speculating that the firing may have to do with a television deal not working out.
Although Silkin has not named a replacement, Luke Williams is a possible candidate. Williams has been assisting in booking for ROH lately and has booking experience in Puerto Rico.
