ROH Injuries Update

During Ring of Honor’s pay-per-view taping this past Saturday night in New York City, ROH Champion Nigel McGuiness broke his nose, suffered a concussion, and needed 14 internal and external stitches after he smashed his face on the guard rail. While there is talk that he may take some time off, he worked last night’s Final Battle show in New York City, cutting a promo about his match the night before. Bryan Danielson and Rocky Romero also suffered concussions.

Uncertainty Over New Smackdown Announce Team

There is some real uncertainty backstage regarding Vince McMahon’s choice for the new SmackDown announce team. For those that have not heard, SmackDown will now be called by Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman.

(In my opinion this is a very weak team. Time will tell, but this choice may well be one that Vince regrets.)

ASWF Match Results from Tuckerman, AR 12/29/07

The show opened with the announcement of a new commissioner of ASWF. The new commissioner was named as Brian Edwards! The crowd erupted with boos! Brian Edwards said that his first order of business was to make an ASWF Tag Team Title Match to begin immediately!

ASWF Tag Team Championship: “American Degenerates” [Morgan Lane/X Kaliber] defeated the “Prime Tyme Playboys” [Zane Richards/Tommy Wayne] by DQ after Mac Daddy attacked the Degenerates and locked X Kaliber inside of the steel cage in one corner of the building. While the three tried to end Morgan Lane's career, Johnny Harper chased them off with a steel chair. Brian Edwards made the match for next week as a six man tag match.

Second match began with Scott Fury stating that he had turned over a new leaf since he ended Acid's career and dropped that weight he was carrying. Scott was then challenged by Nino Loco. Fury defeated Loco by pin fall.

Next up Jamie Jay came out and apologized for the remarks he made towards San Fransisco Treat's lifestyle. Treat then attacked Jamie with the help of Ray Ray. ASWF X Division Champion Chuck Fears [pictured] made the save to set up a tag match later.

Third match saw Seth Sabor pull off the biggest upset of his career by pinning Justin “The Juice” Smart following and inverted swinging neck breaker.

Next was the "Dance Off" Battle Royal. Several wrestlers, referees, security members, and camera workers were involved and Shakedown played YMCA by the Village People. Shakedown eliminated people in the dance off portion by who did the dance the best. After only four people were left, the match turned into an over the top battle royal. Judgment eliminated Nikki Lane, Shakedown, and referee Brian Stapleton to win the contest.

The next match saw Wild Bill with Demon X defeat Loose Cannon.

In the semi, Chuck Fears and Jamie Jay defeated Ray Ray and San Francisco Treat.

In the main event, ASWF Champion continued his "No Name" challenge by defeating Allen Storm by pin fall to retain his title. Afterwards, Seth Sabor went out to help Allen to the back when he accidentally ran into Austin Lane. Lane then attacked Sabor and slapped him across the face while Sabor was down.

The 2007 Wrestling News Center Awards

Be sure to go to the front page and see who won the Wrestling News Center 2007 Awards. The closest race was the one for best promotion between XOW and Memphis Wrestling. I would go to the poll and they would be neck to neck each and everyday. The Wrestling Awards had over 200,000 votes. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees who made the poll.

TFW Match Results from Friday Night in Tupelo

Chris Chaos defeated Dirty Sanchez.

Max Steele defeated Vinnie the Blade by DQ when Nick Grymes interfered and attacked Steele.

The Pink Flamingos (Brian & Ryan SoFine) defeated Danger Zone ("Hot Rod" John Ellison & "Dangerous" David Cox).

Parental Advisory ("The Studd" Scott Porteau & "Bad Attitude" Tony Dabbs) cheated their way to victory over Crazy-N-Sexy (Curly Moe & J-Kid) to become the new TFW Tag Team Champions. Studd & Tony are now "14 time Tag Team Champions." It ain't over by a long shot between these two teams.

"Prime Time" Nick Grimes defeated "The Future" Chris Styles by DQ when Max Steele attacked Grimes. Max & Chris beat Grimes senseless.

WWE Raw House Show Results - 12/28/07 in Atlanta

1st Match - William Regal vs. Drew McIntyre: A lot of submission holds and arm locks. Not much heavy duty hitting. About an 8 or 9 minute match seeing Regal win it with a running knee to the head of McIntyre.

2nd Match - Super Crazy vs. Vladimir Kozlov: An average match at best. Kozlov got the win on Crazy in about 7 minutes with a weird belly to belly suplex.

3rd match - Santino Marella vs. D.H. Smith: Santino was not impressive in the ring tonight. D.H. got the win with a powerslam on Santino. Funny note is me and people in my section started a nice "You take steroids" chant at D.H.

4th Match: Triple Threat Tag Team Match for the World Tag Team Titles - Cade and Murdoch vs. London and Kendrick vs. Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes (C): A great match with good spots and great work from all 3 teams. Cody got the DDT on Murdoch to retain the belts.

5th Match: Randy Orton (C) vs. Y2J Chris Jericho for the WWE Championship: An awesome back and forth match between both guys. It lasted about 15 minutes or so. As always though, Orton got DQ'ed by grabbing the refs leg and pulled him down to the mat with the ref ringing the bell. Orton received a codebreaker from Y2J after the match.

6th Match: Maria and Mickie James vs. Melina and Beth Phoenix: It was a pleasant surprise to see Mickie and Maria get the win. It was a good match with good work from all 4. Mickie got the driving DDT on Melina to win it. Mickie hugged a lot of fans around ringside after the match.

7th Match: Mr. Kennedy vs. Jeff Hardy (C) for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Kennedy cut a promo on how southern people are slow this and that. He made Tony Chimel stand in the corner facing the turnbuckle. Before the match started, I was by the railing where Kennedy was looking. (Lucky for me I got 3rd row ringside) I had my Kennedy T-Shirt on and he motioned to me (so I thought) to call him later. I'm like what the hell and then I seen this HUUUGE lady to my right and I breathed a sigh of relief. Thought Kennedy may have been a little gay for a minute, lol. This was a good match for both guys. Kennedy is slowly getting better in the ring. Just got to keep putting good wrestlers to match up against. Hardy put the swanton on Kennedy to retain the title.

Main Event: Triple H vs. Umaga in a STEEL CAGE match. This was a pleasant surprise to say the least. No one was expecting this. Regal announced it before his match during his promo and got a big big pop from the crowd including myself. The match was back and forth, and Triple H got the win after making Umaga straddle the top ropes, then the pedigree. Triple H spent about 5 to 6 minutes shaking hands and hi-fiving every single fan he could at ringside after the match.

Lance Cade Injured

Former World Tag Team Champion Lance Cade was injured after separating his left shoulder at a live event in Atlanta on Friday night. According to athletic trainer Chris Brennan, the severity of Cade’s injury cannot be determined until he undergoes an orthopedic evaluation. “Lance could be out of action for four to six weeks,” Brennan told WWE.com. “Of course, those numbers could change depending on the orthopedic evaluation.” WWE.com will update this situation as more information becomes available.

Match #1) The Executioner won a Battle Royal last eliminating Big Daddy Punk. The Executioner will now face Mid-South Heavyweight Champion, "Cowboy" Bud Ellis on Saturday January 26th for the title.

Match #2) Eric Ego defeated "Ice Man" Chris Eckos.

Match #3) Bubba Joiner beat "Gorgeous" Jimmy Funk by reverse decision.

Match #4) Loose Cannon won by count-out over "Impressive" Anthony Wayne. Anthony was on the outside and Cannon had the referees attention. Randall Shane then came out and ran Wayne's head into the post knocking him out.

Match #5) The Executioner beat Big Daddy Punk by pin fall in a very quick match.

Match #6) The Bad Boys won over "The Redneck Outlaw" Otis Bass & "Gorgeous" Jimmy Funk.

Match #7) Val Joiner beat "The Southern Kentucky Superstar" Randall Shane in a STREET FIGHT. The match saw interference from Loose Cannon and a save from Anthony Wayne. This match went inside and outside the ring, into the waiting area, the workout area and even outside the armory into the parking lot. At one point in the match Shane threw Joiner into a Coca-Cola machine busting it open and breaking the glass inside. A tag match was then set for the January 26th show pitting Randall Shane & Loose Cannon against Val Joiner & Anthony Wayne.

Southern Pro Wrestling will return to Clarksville on Saturday January 26th with a 7:30 PM bell time. Already signed for that evening is "Cowboy" Bud Ellis defending the Mid-South Heavyweight Championship against The Executioner and Randall Shane & Loose Cannon taking on Val Joiner & Anthony Wayne.

NBW Match Results from 12/29 in Dyersburg, TN

The show started off with the Riot Squad (Mark Justice, Jimmy Tidwell & Tank) in the ring talking about how last week, Rob Justice got suspended and that Tank didn’t have a partner for tonight and that his match was coming up in just a little while and that he needed to go find a partner. Tank left the ring. Tidwell and Mark then called out Commissioner Allen Walker. Tidwell told Walker that Mark's lost last week to Rocker would not go down in the record books because Dustin Starr was not the assigned referee and had no business even being in the building let alone involved in the title match and they was there to get Mark's belt back. Walker told Tidwell & Mark that Dustin Starr IS on the NBW roster as a wrestler and referee if need be so the decision stands.

Mark told Walker that in his contract, it states he gets an automatic rematch and he is there to cash in on that clause tonight. Walker told Mark and Tidwell that Rocker is the NBW Champion and that it will be Rocker vs Flex for the title in the Main Event and that he didn’t have a spot for Mark tonight and proceeded to tell him that he basically had the night off. Mark and Tidwell left the ring pissed and the show was officially started.

High Risk Elimination Match - Winner to face Motley Cruz for a title shot later tonight. "Southern Outlaw" Kilo vs The Sicilian Kid vs J.Weezy vs Sgt. Savage vs "Hot Boy" John Roberts vs Buckwheat......... the match came down to Weezy, Kilo & Roberts. Roberts came off the top of the cage with a crossbody onto Kilo. Weezy backdropped Roberts, who landed on Kilo's shoulders. Roberts went for a frankensteiner but Kilo caught him with a "Styles Clash" and both Kilo and Weezy eliminated Roberts. Kilo and Weezy then fought thru the door as Roberts was exiting and the match was stopped and said to be sorted out by commissioner Walker.

The Asylum (Arnez & Pappy) entered the ring bringing numerous weapons including a pair a shears, various signs, a log chain and a kendo stick. The came Jimmy Tidwell and 1/2 of the NBW tag-team champions Tank. Tidwell then called out Tanks partner for the night.....X-Treme Justice. The Riot Squad defeated The Asylum after Tank handcuffed Arnez to the cage in a crucifixion manner and double teamed Pappy. Arnez broke one of the cuffs and Tank blasted him with a metal sign before they exited the cage door. Everyone but Justice bled very well.

Crazy Train defeated "Real Deal" Tim Edwards in a "Stairway 2 Stardom" ladder match, retrieving a briefcase that guaranteed him a heavyweight title match whenever he wishes. There was some serious bumps in this match with Crazy Train getting thrown almost thru the cage at one point, Crazy Train being on the top rope, walking to the middle then jumping off face first onto the top of the ladder, Edwards nailing a pair of vicious looking elbows onto Crazy Trains back, who was lying on top of a ladder.

NBW High Risk Champion Motley Cruz came out next. Motley was supposed to face Gaylon Ray but he was nowhere to be found. Allen Walker then informed Motley that he would be facing not one, but two opponents for his belt tonight. Motley Cruz retained the High Risk title after defeating J.Weezy and Kilo in what was probably the most brutal match of the night. There was any kind of weapon you could find. Signs, thumbtacks, kendo sticks, a trash can and a cheese grater. Motley ran the cheese grater across Weezy’s head several times juicing him the hard way. Motley ran Kilo into the cage back first several times and worked his back thru out the entire match. Kilo was for shoot injured after this match and had to be carried to the locker room.

Jimmy Tidwell defeated "Upset Kid" Jeremy Moore after special enforcer for the match, "Superman" Jason Reed stopped the count on Tidwell and turned on Moore. The crowd went dead silent when Reed turned. After a very hard chairshot by Reed on Moore, Reed placed Tidwell onto Moore and made the count.

Dustin "5" Starr came to the ring next as the special referee for the heavyweight title match. Newly declared champion Chris "Fabulous" Rocker came to the ring to a tremendous ovation. Flex's music started playing when all of a sudden, Jimmy Tidwell and Mark Justice came out from the curtain. Tidwell told Allen Walker and the fans that thanks to the Riot Squad, Flex had a little accident and could no longer compete in the title match tonight. Walker had no choice but to make a rematch between Rocker & Justice as the Main Event.

“The Enforcer" Mark Justice defeated Chris "Fabulous" Rocker to become the new NBW Heavyweight Champion. The finish of the match saw Rocker set up for his superkick and Mark pulled Dustin in front of him and Dustin took the kick instead. Tank & X-Treme Justice ran out to the ring. Justice tried to climb over the top but was met by Rocker who after a few fists, was knocked back down to the floor. Tank tried to tear at the door of the cage, but it was padlocked. Jimmy Tidwell slipped in a gimmick to Mark who nailed Rocker as Dustin was getting to his feet. Dustin saw Tank & Justice at ringside and wondered what was going on, but was forced to make the 3 count anyway.

After the bell, Mark told Dustin to give him his belt back. Dustin gave it to him alright, but not the way Mark wanted it. Dustin blasted Mark Justice with his newly won championship busting him open in the process. Tank & X-Treme was forced to leave also, so Dustin could exit the ring. Dustin left with the heavyweight title so the new champion if now left without a belt...again.

TLCW Match Results from 12/29/07

The night started out with action between Chris Lexx and new TLCW Superstar Slim "The Bulldog" Pickens. After the match, Lexx instantly began beating down Pickens for a for a few moments to the happiness of his "manager" Ms. Vanna [Sue Young] until Shannon Lee made the save.

In the second contest, Rockin Randy fell once again to Idol Bane in a non-title contest. Rockin Randy was visibly upset at this loss to Idol Bane that only means that Bane is one step closer to a title match.

The Crime fell to Ike Tucker in the third contest of the night that shows Ike Tucker Brian Steele was at ringside.

Dell Tucker came out and announced it was time for the "Future Showcase" starring him, "The Future" Dell Tucker. He announced that his guest on the show this week would be...him! At this time, “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony came out and got into a verbal altercation with Dell, telling him that his "Golden Circle" was better. A challenge was then laid out, a "Talk Show War" would happen next week. TGB would have a guest and Dell Tucker would have a guest, the biggest "coup", the biggest guest would be the winner and ultimate show of the talk shows on TLCW.

Naughty By Nature def. The Posse in a non-title match – both teams were faces. PKO hit the Ghetto Blaster and Rude got the pinfall victory. nXn asked the Posse to come back to the ring and they all raised their hands.

They ran an angle were Scotty C went to the ring and made mention of the internet rumors that Derrick King was done with TLCW, so he asked him to come out and explain what was going on. Derrick King seemed to be backing up these rumors, talking about who he has been in the business over 14 years and now has a son, that now might be the best...enter Idol Bane. Before we could get the answer from Derrick, Idol decided to come in. He started to berated Derrick, telling him needed to leave and that he was the newest star of TLCW. He then spit in Derrick King's face. As the crowd chanted for a super kick, Derrick simply left the ring, not fighting back. What is going on with Derrick King?

Albino Rhino def. Lil Tim

Scotty C once again made his way to the ring and announced he had another interview scheduled. Out came Commissioner Mark Tipton who was ready to make his announcement on the main event of the night. He announced that Too Kool 2 would take on Alan Steel and FLASH FLANAGAN. The crowd couldn't believe this and neither could Alan Steel who took no time making his way to the ring. As he berated Tipton, Flash AND “Too Kool 2” [Tim Grind/Flex] made their way to the ring and made fun of the fact that Alan had to tag with him and Flash even went as far to call Mark Tipton a dumbass for making the match, would do the match and warned Alan if he crossed the line one time, it would be 3 against 1.

"The Baron" Malkavain beat Seth Knight

In the Main Event of the Evening, Flash Flanagan turned heel in a big shocker as Too Kool 2 def. Flash Flanagan and Alan Steel as Tim Grind got the roll up on Flash. Alan decided to attack Flex from behind. At this point, Flash grabbed his kendo stick and nailed TIM GRIND! Flash and Alan beat down Too Kool 2 with the help of two pairs of handcuffs brought down by Ms. Vanna, Flash's new manager. TLCW Owner Tim Cummings made his way out to try and stop it and had his head busted open by Flash. Mark Tipton came to the announcers' desk and stated if Flash didn't stop, he would fine and suspend him. Flash didn't care, stating he was champion. After a few more shots from Flash on his downed foes, Mark fined and suspended him.

Memphis Wrestling Primetime: Best of 2007 Show-December 29, 2007

The show begins with Corey Maclin and Jimmy Hart, live from Corey's house, going over all of the highlights from the past year that are going to be shown during the show. When they mentioned the big Jerry "The King" Lawler and Hulk Hogan FedExForum story, Jimmy said, "that gave him a headache." Corey followed by saying that it almost gave him a heart attack. Jimmy replied, saying that Corey almost went bankrupt. I thought that was interesting, especially with all of the recent war of words between Corey and Bubba The Love Sponge. When they were talking about all of the ornaments on Corey's Christmas tree, Jimmy said that two of them were Corey's wife's earrings.

They air a collective video of some of the Memphis Wrestling superstars. I remember seeing this video a few months ago. The video featured the Bon Jovi hit, "Wanted Dead or Alive," with highlights from an early Lawler/Hogan match, Lawler/Andy Kaufman, Corey Maclin, Jimmy Hart, "Superstar" Bill Dundee, Stagger Lee/Koko B. Ware, Dave Brown, Lance Russell, Brian Christopher, The Rock 'n' Roll Express, Tommy Rich, "Dirty" Dutch Mantel, Abdullah the Butcher, Jerry Jarrett, Jeff Jarrett, The Fabulous Ones, The Road Warriors, Eddie Marlin, Eddie Gilbert, "Universal Hearthrob" Austin Idol, The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette, "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant, The Moondogs, and Jackie Fargo. I thought it was kinda odd for them to kick off a Best of 2007 show by showing a classic video from years past. Isn't that what the next couple months are for? They show a special Happy New Year's greeting several times during the broadcast, brought to you by Memphis Wrestling and all their fine sponsors at Payroll Management Group, Auto Radio, and Wood & Carlton, Attorneys at Law.

Back from break, they are in Corey's living room. During the segment, a little snowman starts singing and Corey's daughter goes and gets it. They show a clip of Jerry Lawler, Jimmy Hart, and Corey Maclin from courtside at a Memphis Grizzlies game, the Jerry Lawler TV title win against "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters from Sam's Town, and The Boogeyman's appearance from Sam's Town, in which, he spits worms into the crowd and runs to the back.

Corey orders some Japanese food from a local restaurant. Jimmy says that the lady, Jennifer, that works there is hot. Then they air some of the Koko B. Ware and Corey Maclin drama from earlier this year. This included the video from the Grizzlies game when Koko was on the receiving end of some silly string that The Grizz sprayed, Koko/Grizz match from Sam's Town with Jimmy Hart as special ref, Koko/Corey making up and joining forces to battle The Assassins. And to think, I had almost forgot just how awful that was.

Jennifer arrives with the food from Kyoto Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, which is located off Goodman Road. Jimmy was right. They are also opening a new location in Hernando real soon. Ok, so they were REALLY putting this restaurant over. Instead of eating the sushi, Jimmy Hart gets a special grilled cheese sandwich that Corey's wife made for him. They air footage from the big Lawler/Hogan fiasco, which included Hulk's interview at Wal-Mart in Germantown promoting Brooke's album, the telephone interview with Hulk agreeing to the match with Lawler signing the contract, Lawler's interview and bogus excuse as to why he was backing out of the match at the press conference, Hulk's press conference interview, local news coverage of the event, Hogan/Paul Wight face to face at the press conference, and Hogan's entrance from the Clash of the Legends show. After the footage, Jimmy Hart is trying to eat rice with some chopsticks and completely misses his mouth. Pretty funny.

Jerry Lawler says a few words from his Superman room at his home. He hopes everyone got what they wanted for Christmas. He said that he asked for puppies, holding up a dog, and made like it had an accident on his leg. The King is looking forward to 2008. Lawler said, "that Memphis Wrestling is also seen all throughout the country of Canada, on the Fight Channel, and the United Kingdom." He said, that over the next couple of months, they are going to open up the vault of Memphis Classic Wrestling and bring us some new never-before-seen footage of some classic matches of the past. He finishes up by wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Corey Maclin and Jimmy Hart are upstairs. They challenge Corey's sons to a game of pool, in which, they do not fare too well. They air the footage from the show earlier this year from AutoZone Park with Jerry "The King" Lawler, Renee, Koko B. Ware, Kid Kash, Rockey The Redbird, and the match between Lawler and Johnny Rotten, where the Redbird players helped out.

Corey and Jimmy are now outside Corey's house. Jimmy Hart puts a Santa hat on Corey. You can hear cars honking at them. They show the returns of Grandmasta Sexay Brian Christopher to the studio and The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette reunion/match with Too Cool 2 from the Sam's Town Finale show, to the tune of Bon Jovi's, "It's My Life." Jimmy Hart said that he gave Jim Cornette his first tights, elbow pads, and that Cornette used to take pictures when he was a kid at the local shows. Jimmy Hart plugs Lansky Brothers shirts that both Corey and himself were wearing. Jimmy brings Corey a present for him and his family. They don't open it, but Corey brings out a gift for Jimmy and opens it. Corey got Jimmy a Soulja Boy bling bling necklace. Jimmy puts the necklace on and starts dancing as he wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, while Corey says goodnight and see you next week.

They wrap up the show with a Salute to Memphis Wrestling's Fallen Superstars video, they showed around the end of November, featuring Andy Kaufman, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Bam Bam Bigelow, Billy Joe Travis, Bruiser Brody, Curt Hennig, Dream Machine, Eddie Gilbert, Joe Leduc, Junkyard Dog, Moondog Spot, Plowboy Frazier, Rick Rude, Ricky Gibson, and Road Warrior Hawk.

I was surprised that they did not show any of the stuff with Lawler and Sid. They should have shown at least one or two good matches that the younger guys had at the studio during the year. There was several good ones to choose from.

Norman Smiley Coming to WWE?

Both Rey Mysterio and MVP are pushing WWE officials to sign former WCW wrestler Norman Smiley to a contract, either as a wrestler or an agent.

Smiley, 41, has worked a number of dark matches for WWE over the past few years, but has never landed a WWE deal. Smiley worked a dark match with Vladimir Kozlov a few weeks ago. The match went well and Smiley received a huge pop from the audience when he made his entrance.

Smiley helped train MVP as a wrestler when he was starting out a few years ago. And of course, Mysterio knows Smiley from their time together in WCW and Mexico.

Torrie's Back Injury Getting Worse

On her MySpace page, Torrie Wilson posted an update on the back injury that is keeping her sidelined. Torrie wrote:

"On the health front, my back problems don't seem to be getting any better and I am actually starting to feel worse believe it or not! It's gotten to the point that I can barely stand up in the morning. I've never really been hurt before so this is really REALLY annoying to me. I can't stand feeling frail and just want to go back to my active lifestyle. I am looking into another type of treatment right now that looks promising so let's hope this problem goes away soon. Please pray for me! I have actually been out of the action in the wrestling ring for quite some time and am really starting to miss it."

She also gave an update on how business for her recently launched clothing store is going. Torrie wrote: "The success of my store so far has been absolutely unbelievable! I guess lots of people in my area agree with the fact that we needed some cool shopping. I actually had to temporarily shut down my online store because we just couldn't keep up with the traffic that the online store was getting along with how busy the actual store is."

Nude Photos of Nancy Benoit in 3/08 Hustler

The upcoming issue of Hustler magazine (March 2008) has a two page spread of nude photos of the late Nancy Benoit. Apparently these images are from when she was married to Jim Daus. Apparently she was touring doing bikini and wet t-shirt competitions in Florida when one of the hosts told her she should be in Penthouse. He set up a photo shoot for her and then videotaped the photo shoot. Nancy never submitted the photos and later had them destroyed but either never knew about or got the video which is now in the possession of Hustler.

Dory Funk Jr. on Iron Mike DiBiase & Other Stuff

Dory Funk, Jr. & Rocky Johnson

Funk's Corner - The Dory Funk Uppercut Forearm Blow

"People either have to think wrestling is fake or they think wrestlers can't throw a punch hard enough to break an egg."

The man doing the talking was Iron Mike Dibiase, father of the "Million Dollar Man," Ted Dibiase.

It was a Sunday afternoon in the old Amarillo Territory and we were traveling the new Interstate 40 between Amarillo and Albuquerque. Iron Mike was one of my father's best friends and someone I could trust to talk to about the wrestling business.

That night in Albuquerque Iron Mike was wrestling Ricky Romero who liked to punch a lot, but like me, had a lot of respect for Mike Dibiase. Iron Mike was the leader in the match, the "Ring General." Mike was a wrestling heel and only threw a punch if there was a good reason for it. That night Iron Mike had so much heat little Ted Dibiase was running back and forth at ringside bawling his eyes out yelling at the fans for booing his father.

In the other main event that night, Terry and I were wrestling Kurt and Karl Von Brauner managed by Saul Weingroff. The "Sly Foreigner" German Team with the Jewish manager had so much heat promoter and ring announcer Mike London's voice couldn't be heard over the jeers and boos of the wrestling fans as he tried to introduce them.

The big one and the real German Kurt Von Brauner didn't even throw a punch but rather threw a forearm uppercut blow to the chest.

I noticed the fans reacted much more to his forearm smashes than to the multitude of punches often thrown by inexperienced wrestlers.

After the match I asked Kurt to show me how he throws the European forearm smash. I tried it some and had good fan response, but it was difficult and far from perfect.

As a young wrestler, I tried to work in more wrestling, bumps and highspots rather than fall into the rut of punch, punch and punch until your arm actually blows up that you sometimes may see watching inexperienced wrestlers.

I learned to throw the forearm smash shown to me by Kurt Von Brauner through practice. I practiced on my family, bathroom doors, friends and even brick and concrete walls and I still practice today. Any time I open a door, I give it just a little forearm tap and enter.

In the late sixties, my father, Dory Funk Sr. brought Lord Alfred Hayes to the Amarillo Territory. Dad forever wanted an English Lord as a heel in the territory even to the point of having earlier brought in Pat Patterson giving him the name, Lord Patrick Patterson even though he had a French Canadian accent.

Working with Lord Alfred Hays I had the opportunity to learn even more about the European style of work. They worked from the right as opposed to the left here in America. Europeans were used to a hard surface ring and took more of a rolling fall as opposed to what has been labeled the "Bumping Style" here in America. The European wrestlers did much more wrestling and few at all even knew how to throw a good punch.

It was my observation that a combination of the two styles of work taking the best of each style along with my basic training in amateur wrestling learned from my Father would more fit a style of credibility that I wanted to accomplish in professional wrestling.

To best demonstrate that style, now on !BANG! TV on our website we have a match from Japan between myself and one of the best European wrestlers, Horst Hoffman.

Kane Endorses Ron Paul for President

WWE superstar Kane has gone public with his endorsement of Ron Paul for President in 2008. The Big Red Machine explains: If you’re like me, you’re tired of unnecessary and exorbitant taxes, you’re tired of the dollar constantly losing purchasing power, and you’re alarmed when politicians demand that we surrender our constitutionally protected civil liberties, especially the bedrock principles of habeas corpus and due process, in exchange for “security.”

The Rock Ain't The Rock No More!

Several Hollywood news and gossip outlets are reporting that Dwayne Johnson does in fact no longer want to be billed under his wrestling alias "The Rock". It looks like the change is effective immediately, as we noted here earlier, he is billed as just Dwayne Johnson in his upcoming movie "Get Smart" with co-star Steve Carrell.

Boogeyman's WWE status

The Boogeyman hasn't been seen on WWE TV since November when he was involved in the one night only return of DX.

To put it bluntly, WWE doesn't know what to do with him. WWE writers Ed Koskey and Brian Gerwitz are Boogey's main supporters as they like to write comedy segments for him. Working against this though is ECW head writer Dusty Rhodes, who wants to limit skits and promos on ECW with more solid in ring action.

The general feeling is that his act grows stale quickly, so they will use him on a non regular basis, possibly moving him to Smackdown.

RVD Comments on WWE Return and PWA Appearance

Rob Van Dam has a new blog up on his official website where he talks about a variety of topics, including his return to WWE a few weeks ago. Here are some highlights:

On his one-night return at the Raw 15th Anniversary:
"Glad everyone seemed to enjoy my brief appearance on RAW. Of course, even though it was a reunion for the 15 year anniversary, many of you refuse to believe that I’m not back. Hold on to whatever you need to, but I’ll be chillin’ in Southern Cali while you’re doing that. It was a fun experience, being there for one day and knowing I’m going home instead of on to the next spot on the map. Some of the other wrestlers jokingly said goodbye with “ See ya at Wrestlemania”. We’ll see."

On wrestling Booker T in Texas:
"Making an exception to my plans of California dreaming, I’ll be in Houston on December 28th for PWA’s one year anniversary show. RVD vs Booker T headlines this huge event in Texas, which is sure to have a record breaking crowd. If you’re able to make it, know that this is a rare opportunity to witness those RVD moves actually being done by RVD and not an impressionable wanna-be. Sweet, one-of-a-kind action!"

It was reported last week that Lacey Von Erich's profile had been removed from the Florida Championship Wrestling website. There is something to the story because apparently she's gone. No word yet if she's officially parted ways with WWE, but things don't look good. Reports on her work state that she wasn't picking up the business quick enough. The daughter of Kerry Von Erich signed a contract with WWE back in August. She hasn't appeared on a FCW show in several weeks.

The trainer for the women's wrestlers in Florida Championship Wrestling, Steve Madison, has been fired. He was making $500 a week before the company dropped the axe on him last Tuesday. This might not have anything to do with his dismissal, but Madison went away for a weeks on a tour for New Japan and didn't come back until recently.

Michelle McCool's Nose Broken

Michelle McCool's black eye on SmackDown happened during WWE's European tour. What happened is that she took a clothesline across the nose from Victoria during a match. The clothesline left McCool with a broken nose, not to mention two black eyes at one point.

Joey Styles Blasts JBL's Accouncing

Joey Styles' latest column has him taking aim and JBL and his broadcasting abilities, or lack thereof. Styles wrote: "Just when I thought nobody could butcher color commentary worse than Ernest "The Cat" Miller did years ago, along came JBL, tempting me to drive my pencil into my own ears at every WWE pay-per-view." He also added: "JBL spent more time talking about himself in his Foghorn Leghorn voice than he did talking about the matches he was supposed to be calling. While I have no doubt that JBL will one day be inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame as the great in-ring superstar he is, the self-professed Wall Street wizard will not be joining Gene Okerlund and Jim Ross in the announcer's wing." Styles closes his column with this parting shot: "I wish JBL the best in his future endeavors if only so I never have to suffer through him calling another match."

A Christmas Present

This "Christmas Present" was posted by WWRD on Mid-Southern Wrestling message board. I thought I would pass it on.

Memphis Wrestling Primetime Results-December 22, 2007

Corey Maclin opens the show by sending out season's greetings to everyone and going over what we can expect from this week's show. Corey is joined again this week by "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart.

Derrick King, Johnny Dotson, Rashard Devon, Mr. White, and Su Yung come out for an interview. Derrick is looking for revenge this week for Jerry "The King" Lawler's actions last week toward Mr. White and himself. They are having a tag match between Derrick/Johnny versus Lawler and a partner of his choosing. Lawler, Tatt2, and Grady Watson come out for an interview. Tatt2 is Lawler's partner for the match.

Both teams get in the ring and are ready to begin the match, but there is one thing missing. And that's Referee Jerry Calhoun. Apparently, Calhoun must have been hitting the spiked eggnog in the back pretty hard. Pretty funny. Calhoun, eventually, made it to the ring and started the contest. Good opening match. The crowd at the studio was chanting "Bobby Brown!" whenever Johnny Dotson was in the match. The match ended in disqualification, due to interference, by Mr. White and Rashard Devon. Su Yung jumped in the ring and was propositioning herself to "The King." Lawler grabbed her hand and then placed her across his knee and spanked that ass. Like it's been said many times before, "It's good to be The King." They advertise next week's Best of 2007 show that will be taking place from Corey's home.

Beginning in January, they are going to air some of the best classic footage for a couple months to celebrate 75 years of Memphis Wrestling.

They open the vault of Memphis Classic Wrestling, with a match between "The Universal Hearthrob" Austin Idol and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Jimmy Hart and Spoiler was at ringside. Randy Hales was doing the play-by-play. The finish came when Spoiler came in with a cane, breaking it across Idol's back while he had Neidhart in a sleeperhold. Jimmy Hart interfered in the match by breaking the count and getting Austin Idol disqualified. Everyone brawled after the match, until Jimmy Hart went crazy on both Neidhart and Spoiler with a belt. The crowd was going bananas back in the day.

Brian Christopher walks out for an interview and says that Corey got his Rolex from a pawn shop over there at Raines and Elvis Presley. He said it doesn't keep the right time because he defeated Crime by fifty-eight seconds last week and Corey said that he won it in one minute and forty-two seconds. Christopher said that this week, he is going to defeat two people in less than two minutes.

Brian Christopher defeated Chris Lexx and Crime in two minutes and forty-five seconds with a little help from a chain when he hit Crime. After the match, Jimmy Hart suggested, that next week Christopher should bring his own timekeeper because, apparently, Corey's watch is malfunctioning.

"The Birdman" Koko B. Ware comes out for an interview. He wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and sings a little song.

Too Cool 2 comes out and are featured on the PMG Fan Cam. They have an interview and lay down a special holiday freestyle ending with, "that's the bizness, Dog!"

Too Cool 2 defeat Pokerface/The Gladiator, along with Rashard Devon, after connecting with the pop, lock, and drop leg drop on The Gladiator.

Koko B. Ware comes back out with Tom Nunnery, Dustin Starr, Chris Lexx, Grady Watson, Mr. Coffee, Jerry Calhoun, and Crime, saying they are going to sing a Christmas song. They start singing, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Derrick King interrupts the singing and asks Nunnery to give him the guitar. Nunnery hits Derrick over the head with it. Then, Koko hits him again with the guitar and starts back singing, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Jimmy Hart said, "Look, Guys, the people are leaving the building, what happened on this?" I guess some of the fans were not impressed with the singing. Corey ended the show by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

Even More Georgia Wrestling History

1936: No documented results for this match have been found, but Clara Mortensen was scheduled to defend the Women’s World Title against Mildred Steele at the American Legion in Augusta for promoter Bill Metzger. Mortensen had been claiming the title since 1932, although it is unclear exactly how she came to be recognized as such. Some sources report she had defeated Barbara Ware for the title.

1943: John Mauldin defeated Jim Coffield by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Sammy Friedman.

1948: Mae Young defeated June Byers in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Also, Herb Welch defeated Red Roberts in the semi-main event.

1949: Ray Villmer defeated George Flynn (Tim Geohagen) to win the Southern Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Flynn had been the reigning champion since he defeated Dan O’Connor on December 16, 1949, in Atlanta.

1955: Freddie & Billy Blassie defeated Don McIntyre & Jerry Graham to win the World Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. McIntyre & Graham had been the reigning champions since they defeated the Blassies on December 9, 1955, in Atlanta.

1957: The Mighty Yankee (Roger Mackay) defeated Bibber McCoy by countout in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Tom Mahoney.

1960: Ray Gunkel defeated Freddie Blassie by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Also, Darling Dagmar defeated Baby Cheryl to retain the Midget Women’s World Title.

1963: A main event match between Corsica Joe and Chief Big Heart was ruled a no contest at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Steve Manderson.

1966: A main event match between Buddy Fuller & Sputnik Monroe and Leo Garibaldi & Butcher Vachon was ruled a no contest at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Also, Bobby Shane & Mario Galento defeated Eric Von Brauner & the Red Raider in the semi-main event. Enrique & Ramon Torres defeated Lars Anderson by disqualification when Gene Anderson interfered. The program for this card mentions that Enrique & Ramon Torres are recognized as World Tag Team Champions. It is unclear as to how they came to be recognized as such, as the last reference we have shows Enrique & Alberto Torres defending the title against the Infernos on August 26, 1966, in Atlanta. It also said Fuller was the holder of the Georgia Heavyweight Title. Fuller had been the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Galento on May 28, 1965, in Atlanta. It also featured a menu of available items at Galento’s Pizza Arena restaurant, with the highest priced item being a sixteen-ounce T-Bone steak for $3.25.

Is NBC Going to Use WWE Programming or Not?

Saturday we reported that WWE programming would be used by NBC to fill in the gaps left by the current writers strike. That news was posted on wrestlinginc.com.

Now we have the following post on WrestleView.com: According to a new report by PWInsider, as of this week there are no plans for NBC to use WWE programming to fill the void left by the current writer's strike, with Saturday Night's Main Event not expected to return until next year. So, any talks of NBC airing any WWE programming at this time doesn't appear to be happening.

So... I guess we will just have to wait and see what NBC does with regard to WWE.
